Welcome to Caterpillar class

Our topic this term is Inspire!

We will be thinking about people who inspire us and how we can inspire others. We will be learning all about people who help us (doctors, nurses, firefighters, paramedics, vets and more). Mo Farah will be featured in one of our stories and we look forward to learning all about him and how to eat a healthy diet!

Parents, please join us for our class assembly.

This will take place on Friday 22nd of June at 9.00am. We expect this this to take no longer than 30 minutes. We hope to see you there!

Reception Children 2018/19

We cannot wait to have the new reception children come and join us this term! We are very much looking forward to meeting them all and welcoming them in to Caterpillar class. The dates and times are as follows:

June 18th 2.00pm – New Entrants Meeting. Your child’s first opportunity to meet the rest of their class and make lots of new friends! For the parents there will be a talk from myself and Mrs White. The PTA will then serve refreshments and there is a chance to buy second hand uniform.

July 2nd 2.00pm – Meet the class. Please arrive at 2pm, your child will then spend time getting to know their class and playing fun games.

July 5th 12.30pm – Sports Day and Picnic. Please join us for a picnic and to spectate our Sports Day. There will also be a special race for the new reception children! Please note that Sports Day is on Thursday 5th July not Wednesday the 4th as it says in your class packs. Apologies for any confusion.

July 9th 2.00pm –  Meet the class.

There are three opportunities for your child to come and spend time with us and their new class. It is a really important time for your child to build relationships and settle in, smoothing the transition in September. Please attend all three if you can. If you are unable to attend then please do let the office know.

Class Dojo

This year we will be using Class Dojo to keep you connected with your child’s learning and upcoming events. You have been given a letter with your child’s code to join our class page. All you need to do is download the App and register as a parent (instructions are on the letter).

We encourage you to upload your own photographs of home learning and any experiences you would like to share with us and the rest of the class.

If you’re having trouble getting connected or have any questions then please feel free to pop in and ask.

 

Reading

Read with your child as often as you can but a minimum of 4 times a week. Please sign your child’s reading record when you have read and we will change their reading book.

If your child is in Reception, now is a great time to set up or continue your reading routine and enjoy sharing a book together.

Spellings – Year 2 only

Spelling tests for Year 2 will take place every Monday. New spellings will be added to their red spelling practise books but you may choose to use paper or an alternative method. The children will learn these spellings each week in school. Each of the spelling lists contain a particular spelling pattern included in the Year 2 National Curriculum.

 

Times tables  – Year 2 only

Year 2s have started to learn their two times tables. They will have a test every Thursday. The test will contain 20 questions up to 12 x the times table they are learning. The children will move through the levels at a pace that suits them and a note will be written in their times table book to inform you which tables they should learn for the following week. Please note, they may spend several weeks on one level until they are recalling those tables from memory at a good speed. If you would like any support with practising, please do pop in and ask!
